Reference Guide

Hops & Bean .co creates custom digital pet portraits based on the photos you provide. To ensure your portrait captures your pet’s personality and unique features, follow these guidelines for the best reference images.

General Guidelines for All Portraits

  • Lighting: Natural, even light is best. Take photos outdoors or near a window to avoid harsh shadows or dark areas.

  • Eye-Level: Capture your pet at their eye level to maintain natural proportions.

  • No Clipping: Ensure important parts like ears, paws, tail, or full body are fully visible.

  • No Filters: Avoid filters, as they can distort your pet’s true colors and features.

  • Multiple Photos: Send several photos if needed. I can combine them to achieve the pose or look you want.

Full-Body Portraits

  • Position: Your pet should be standing, sitting, or lying naturally. Entire body must fit in the frame.

  • Background: Keep it simple or uncluttered to ensure the focus is on your pet.

Head/Bust Portraits

  • Framing: Focus on your pet’s head and shoulders. Both eyes should be visible.

  • Expression: Capture your pet in a natural, relaxed state. Avoid extreme close-ups that distort features.

Multiple Pet Portraits

  • Separate Photos Are Fine: Pets do not need to be in one photo; individual photos can be combined into a single portrait.

  • Consistent Lighting & Angle: For a natural final look, try to keep lighting and eye level consistent across all pets.

  • Poses & Expressions: Each pet should appear relaxed or natural. If you want specific poses, send separate photos showing each pet in the desired position.

Combining Multiple Photos

If your pet won’t stay still for the perfect shot, don’t worry! I can combine multiple images to create the exact pose or expression you envision. Just ensure each photo follows the guidelines above for lighting, eye level, and clarity.

Human Portrait Guidelines

Humans can only be included with a pet portrait (solo human portraits are not available) under the Signature Pawtrait Listing. An additional fee applies for including a human. Only full-body human artwork is allowed.

Full-Body Human Reference Tips:

  • Submit a full-body photo of the human in a pose similar to your pet.

  • Use natural daylight for the photo.
